I don't know if iframe was even meant to be functional, but if it was supposed to be, it isn't currently.

I imagine they don't allow iframes so that you can't run arbitrary code on people visiting your page. There's some sandboxing and restrictions of what HTML you can have on your page and iframes would subvert that
