talking about your personal opinions on the music genre emo. like what type of emo is ur least favorite or what do you think shouldn't be considered emo?

I'll go first: MCR is the blandest emo band I've heard. Kinda seems like they're trying too hard to be emo. Hell the reddit community doesn't consider MCR emo and a bunch of bands that many of you guys think r emo.

im not emo anymore but i was a emo->scene->scemo tween/teen (2010-2015) and imo i def saw pop punk (MCR, PATD, FOB, Paramore) as like "basic" (nearly poser-level) emo but i thought metalcore/deathcore was more legit emo. and then saw like the 'crunkcore' and technopunk (and also core) as like the scene bands.

i dunno what i'd say now. feels like it was so long ago.

but i'd def say that mcr/patd/fob emos were NOT the same as MIW/PTV/BVB/White Chapel emos

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

copypasta aside, i'm pretty adamant that mcr and the like aren't emo, lmfao. they're far too corporate for my tastes. my actual emo take is that (midwest) emo vocals aren't "bad," they're genre-defining. emo is meant to be DIY, anything more polished feels disingenuous. microwave is like, my hard line for production value lol
