From Stephen King, I've read The Shining a few times over, and I think it's better than the movie if you've ever watched that. The sequel book Doctor Sleep was also good but less horror-ish from what I remember. I haven't read it in a few years. His other book 'Salems Lot was okay, but I found it kind of slow and it was hard to finish
For other recommendations, I finished reading The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. I would say it's more of a thriller novel if that's the right term? It wasn't super scary but there were a lot of moments where suspense was built up (the kind that makes you want to fast-forward through the scene but you keep reading anyway lol)
The book Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane is also a good psychological thriller I think.
If you're looking in your school library the chances of them having the Hendrix book or Lehane book may be slimmer because I think they're written for young adult/mature audiences, but you might have a better chance finding it in a public library :) I hope that you find some of my recommendations interesting!
