Id love to get my hands in a 3ds one of these days, as i never got to own one when i was a kid. Any game recommendations? Whether it be silly shovelware or something actually decent?

I know this reply is a few months late, but my absolute favorite is tomodachi life. I know it's basic but it's just so good! Others that I really enjoy include Kirby: Planet Robobot, Both Animal crossing new leaf and happy home designers, and kid icarus.

Nintendogs+cats is a great game. One of the best pet simulator games to exist, lots to do, adorable cats and dogs, etc.
Basically in the game you raise pets.
At the start the game makes you choose a dog from a small amount of choices. Unfortunately, you can't start with a cat. You have to earn in game currency to get them.
To earn money, enter competitions. the higher place you get the more money you get. You can also go on meter walks and collect gifts then sell what you get from the gifts.
regular cats cost £800
dogs usally cost between £1,280 - £1,580
if u need help with anything else lmk

I personally love Dementium: The Ward and Dementium II, their first person horror games and fairly bloody. (◕‿◕✿)

if you like Tomodachi life, you would love Miitopia, it's a more silly version of Tomodachi life but now it's an RPG!
not only that, it has a great story (imo) it also contains some life simulation features like relationships from Tomodachi life
over all, it's a 9.5/10 for me

I don't know much about which 3ds games to recommend but with the 3ds's backwards compatibility you can play almost any DS game.
The ones I'd recommend are more hidden gems than anything and probably really hard to get your hands on physically. I emulate them and if you're willing to tinker with your 3ds or pay someone else to you can just download the roms.
1. The World Ends With You, this is absolutely amazing and makes excellent use of all of the DS's features. It's made by the same guy who did kingdom hearts and I honestly say that TWEWY is 10x better. The gameplay is great, the art is great, the story is great, the music is SPECTACULAR. The entire game is also BRIMMING with early 2000's style, to the point that there are NPCs walking around Shibuya in lolita dresses (you can also make the main character wear a lolita dress, or make any of your characters crossdress in any way.) The only sour points are that the partner character mechanics are a little confusing and the pin evolution system is a bit esoteric. It's also available on phone and Nintendo switch with some gameplay differences. It also has a sequel.
2. Solatorobo, you're a furry piloting a mech that throws your enemies around, need I say more? Really though the game plays quite well and looks beautiful.
3. Hotel dusk, this is a detective game with a good sense of mystery. The game's main selling point is that all of the talk sprites are beautifully and stylistically rotoscoped. It also has a sequel.
4. Nanashi no geemu, as you might be able to tell this game is in Japanese, because it only ever released in Japan. That means you have to download the fan translation. After that though, it's a horror game based entirely around the DS, and it's in first person too! The game's story progresses though either running from ghosts in real life and finding necessary objectives or by playing the cursed game that's on your download play. It also has a sequel.
5. I think there's an Advance Wars game on DS? I don't know much about the DS game but I've played the GBA ones. They're pretty fun Turn-Based Strategy games that are incredibly well balanced (for the most part).
6. I heard there's a wizard of oz RPG on the DS that's pretty good, I haven't played it or anything similar though so you'll have to look it up and see if you'd be interested.
