The International Submarine Band & Safe At Home
In 1966, Gram moved to Los Angeles with the newly formed International Submarine Band (the name an ode to the Young Rascals series) made from fragments of one of Gram's previous groups The Legends. Consisting of Gram, Ian Dunlop, Jon Corneal, John Nuese, and Bob Buchanan as well as several other musicians, like Chris Etheridge and former members of the Like, involving themselves in the Sub Band.
Gram Parsons, who was now based in Los Angeles, called on several former members of one of his former folk groups The Legends to become the Submarine Band, and in the process got a hold of singer, songwriter, and producer Lee Hazlewood to produce Safe At Home. An employee of Hazlewood's, Suzi Jane, encouraged Lee to produce the album. But before he could say yes, the Sub Band broke up.
Released in 1968 after the break-up of The International Submarine Band, Safe At Home is considered the album that premiered country rock as it began to be known.
