anime recommendations like madoka magica??

OK SO I really like madoka magica but I haven't watched a lot of magical girl anime, although an anime I love that had elements that reminded me of madoka magica is Revue Starlight!!

The anime takes place at a theater high school where the 9 female leads duel each other in secret auditions to see who is the "top star", the show focuses on the characters' goals and their relationships. The mc is Karen Aijou, who enters the secret auditions to keep the promise she had with her childhood friend, even though she wasn't initially invited to participate. It also has a time-loop type of system which you might be interested in. It has 12 episodes, a movie and a mobile game (+the stageplays and the special episodes, also the game explores an entirely different story with a lot more characters). The movie is a bit darker than the anime, if that interests you (if you check it out you'll notice there are 2 movies, on of them is Rondo Rondo Rondo, which is just a recap of the anime).

If you want magical girl anime similar to Madoka Magica, I'm sure there are a bunch. I've heard of some but I haven't watched them myself so I don't know whether I can recommend them. The one I mentioned has similar elements to Madoka Magica but it isn't a magical girl anime.

Accoording to a reddit thread (those are always reliable for some reason lmao) similar anime to madoka magica are:

-Yuki Yuna which is apparently a magical girl anime with darker twists

-Princess Tutu which I barely know anything of (I'm planning on watching it some day though

-Revolutionary girl Utena which I actually HAVE watched but I wasn't sure whether it was worth mentioning, it isn't a magical girl anime, it's kinda similar to revue starlight - as you might see in one of the images I attached, although if you're planning on watching that I strongly advise you to look up the trigger warnings, shit gets dark
