Gonna be in Queensland next week, what should i check out?

Im gonna go to Australia next week and stay with family/friends for an entire month, spending most of it at a friends place in Queensland near Brisbane.

What are some places i could check out?
Are there some cool queer bars or karaoke bars i could go to with my friends?
And whats the easiest way to make some new friends in Australia?

Really excited and anxious about going, its gonna be the first time for me flying outside of the EU all alone.

Also, if there are some things i should watch out for (except the dangerous animals) i would love to know to stay safe.
