Recovering old myspace data (json files)

Hi friends.

As most of us know, myspace lost all of our shit a few years back.

Its hopeless, and I shouldnt even try, I know. But there has to be a way. It saved *some* of my photos, but the vast majority of them are just gone forever.

If theres any chance, I have to try, because I lost a friend a year ago, and theres photos of us that are no where else but that stupid f-ing website.

When you log into myspace, it allows you to download your data. It downloads as a JSON file which im not really familiar with but essentially is just kind of a basic text format. My data download includes the files for all 800+ photos I had on there. Most of them are broken. Some are not (the same ones that were saved and accessible on myspace currently are the ones I can view just by clicking on them. The ones that wont load on the website, are the ones with broken links in the data download.)

I feel like if theres any chance of recovery, its with this data somehow.

So I guess why im posting here is....to ask for help. Ideas. Anything. If you were me, what would you do next? Where would you look? What would you try?

So far ive tried just some basic data recovery programs but the ones I tried dont support the file, or are wanting to scan just my computer. The computer I use now is obviously not the one I used in my myspace days, so scanning it, is pointless.

I want to scan, and fix this file. There has to be something out there that can take these broken documents and make them readable again. Maybe even viewable.

Some of the things I've thought were:

What if i reformatted the file into something else? Fixed it in its new format, then attempted to view?

Or what if I took each document link within the JSON thats associated with each lost photo, and found a way to format each one individually somehow into a photo format instead of text?

What data within each link is relevant? What is useless?

Where exactly in each photo link, is it broken?

Are they just blank documents, making this whole thought useless?

This is what it looks like when I click on one of the lost photos links in the data download. The download opens in Firefox, if thats relevant. At the top of the window box, it says "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below." and then shows this:

<Error>

<Code>NoSuchKey</Code>

<Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>

</Error>

I need someone with more knowledge and experience than me to help me with this. Please. There must be something we can do with this data.

I feel like im asking myself good questions and thinking in the right areas, but I dont have enough knowledge/experience to know what I actually need to do with this data. Or what I can do. If anything.

Anyone? Imagine if we can do it for me.

That means theres hope for every other person who lost their photos too.

Can we at least try??

This is a good example on why we shouldn't rely on Cloud storage. If anything bad happens to the server host and it shuts down without warning, everything is gone. I have never used Myspace so I can't help you with this, but I wish you the best of luck!
