Our list of indie game recommendations! These range from very obscure to cult hit in popularity. We're trying to limit ourselves here to games we don't hear a ton of talk about. If you end up trying any of these or want details about any of them, we'd love to talk about them! (sequels are separated by a slash)

Visual Novels:

  • Milk Inside a Bag of Milk / Milk Outside a Bag of Milk
  • Mr. Rainer's Solve-it Service
  • Heaven's Gate (apart of the Hello Charlotte series)
  • novena

RPG/Visual Novel Hybrids:

  • Hello Charlotte (any in the series, but maybe look up a walkthrough for the first game)
  • Escaped Chasm / Dweller's Empty Path
  • Brutal Complex (only the demo is released and only in Japanese but it's great)
  • tomorrow won't come for those without ██████

RPGs:

  • Hylics / Hylics 2
  • WORLD OF HORROR
  • Everhood

Puzzle Games:

  • EXAPUNKS
  • Last Call BBS
  • SHENZHEN I/O
  • Opus Magnum
  • Mixolumia
  • Tile Tale
  • shapez
  • Potion Craft

Soulslikes:

  • White Lavender
  • Brume
  • Ginseng Hero

Roguelike/Roguelite:

  • Noita
  • Kingsway
  • Downwell

Other:

  • Ord. (text adventure)
  • Subway Midnight (light horror walking simulator)
  • Post Void (psychedelic fps)
  • Stacklands (card-based god simulator)
  • Micro Mages (modern platformer made to be played on an NES)
  • Minit (top down puzzle adventure)
  • minicraft+ (top down sandbox adventure)

I'd add Blasphemous to the list, especially since its sequel is coming out soon.

I'll toss in the suggestion of the Blaster Master Zero and Azure Striker Gunvolt (as well as its spinoff/sequel series, Luminous Avenger iX) to the list.

BMZ is a psuedo-remake/sequel/retelling of the original NES game. The games get progressively better as they go on, and keep that NES style to it.

Gunvolt, is from the same company (Inti Creates, who was responsible for stuff like Megman Zero or 9/10) and is a lot more anime-inspired. Really fun series of games, and the coolest part is that both endings have sequels. The good ending leads to Gunvolt 2/3, and the bad ending leads to the Luminous Avenger iX series.

i really like wobble dogs and touhou mystia's izakaya. the first one is a casual game where you raise funky looking dogs and you can crossbreed em to make em look even weirder, the second is a fangame of the touhou series (but you don't need to know anything about it to enjoy it) where you play as a night sparrow youkai that has a little restaurant cart and forages for ingredients to then use in the restaurant section of the game :3

Gotta recomend Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2. Fyi, there is no Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 1. Absolute fever dream of a fighting game and is basically a shitpost in fighting game form. It's also free and on steam :3
