Tried downloading mods and whenever i play the modded version it never gets past the loading screen. rip

Maybe you should try some of the optimization modpacks available on curseforge and modrinth!

I just wanted to say that curseforge sucks and that we should all use the modrinth launcher instead <3

I use the MultiMC launcher. Also if a modpack can't load for you, sometimes it's because you don't have enough RAM and need to allow Minecraft to use more of it.
