myspace is… back?

Forum: Reclaiming the Internet Group

I don't know too much about this as of posting this, but apparently myspace is coming back to life - as a phone app! I'm a bit wary of it for now (judging by the screenshots, there's not nearly as much room for customization as there is here), and I'm particularly worried that it might try too hard to be "modernized" (aka more like tiktok, instagram, and twitter) and alienate its userbase like tumblr is doing. hopefully my fears are completely unfounded, though. I'm gonna download the app to try it out, how about y'all?

edit: I'm seeing conflicting information about whether there even IS an app, but if there is, I can't find it on the app store. people are saying that the alleged new app is run by cryptobros (and requires facebook or twitter to even make an account), so it's probably gonna flop lol

from what i’ve gathered based on the ads i keep seeing, the app isn’t actually released to the public yet — there’s a sign up list for it i think? also yeah, i’m really worried about the ui. it looks like it can’t be html customized, just color customized. it’s not nearly as personal as spacehey i think. it might be fun to have on your phone but i keep encouraging people in the comments of the ads to make spacehey accounts hahaha

It's called nospace. But you can reserve your username here:

I think any modern iteration of MySpace isn't going to be MySpace, in any way we think of it.

Wasn't a fair part of the problem with the original MySpace that it didn't get along well with mobile? Like wasn't that a big part of the reason why it lost to Facebook? So a modern version which is focused on being a mobile app probably isn't going to be nearly as customizable as what we're looking for. In any event, it won't really feel like the real thing.

Maybe I'm being too negative. But I already don't like that it requires a phone number. That's part of the intrusive stuff that I despise about the modern internet.

I'm really impressed with Spacehey so far. I think once the bots discover it, it's going to be in big trouble but until then I'll ride this out and promote it as much as I can.

something tells me they're going to use spotify [or whatever instagram does] for music integration since this is apparently a mobile app? kind of a turn off tbh. the old myspace let you upload your own music. tumblr kind of still lets you do that.
