Is buying and amp for an electric guitar is important?

its definitely not necessary but personally, I hate playing without an amp because it's harder to hear when I mess up. small combo amps are pretty cheap and you can always use headphones with it so you're not being loud. 

you don't need an amp, unless you plan on doing any kind of performance or just want you guitar sound loud, have it sound more distorted or you just want to practice at home and prefer playing with an amp, a portable sawtooth 10 watt is like 80-90 bucks.

Ngl its way more fun to play with a amp especially because you can experiment with the different settings. But its not necessary
