girl interrupted book vs movie

Okk , So i recently finished the book for Girl, interrupted , and have thoughts on both the movie and the book. So firstly , Omigosh the actresses did beautiful in the movie , and are amazing actresses in general . They gave the girls so much life and portrayed each of them so well . But my only problem with the movie was , in one scene they made susanna , ( the author , ) racially prejudiced to show “ character development “ ???? It ticked me off so bad because she is nowhere near that in the book nor as a person when she talls about herself in the book . I know directors can’t fit EVERYTHING into the movie but there were a million other ways they could’ve portrayed her development. Adding onto that , they made Lisa , ( person in this memoir ) use the D slur extra ?? Unless i missed something she never used it in the book . I didn’t understand why they had to make her say it so much ( for those who dont know , the D slur is a slur used by lesbians only . As a lesbian , if u do not know what the slur is it is Dyke. Do not use it in any case if you arent lesbian , though that’s common sense ) So overall, I liked the book alot better , but i think the movie ( aside those two cons ) is good too because they gave the girls so much more life . But we see susannas mind on the girls and her own personal thoughts which is what makes the memoir so interesting too , both great ( again, aside the movie cons ) . Something unrelated ( a little ) I don’t like when Lisa defenders ( regarding the movie in this case , ) claim that she wasn’t the reason for Daisy’s suicide. Whichh i find soo incorrect. Like yes, She wasn’t the WHOLE reason, She was already suffering so much by her disgusting and horrible father and by having a ED, However, Lisa was her last straw and u can’t deny that. People tend to forget this is a memoir , and these were real people. Though i know this never happened in real life , because Susanna and Lisa were at the hospital when Daisy passed, though in the movie in this case you can’t deny that Lisa pressed her buttons extra hard. Anyhow for my final thoughts on everything, This memoir is soo heartbreaking but extremely eye opening too. I love how in the books susanna opens u up and explains certain things so thoroughly as if shes talking directly to you only . i love everything displayed in the movie ( Like said so many times before , aside the cons ) And overall a heart wrenching but a memoir everybody should watch or read at least once in their life , as it truly opens ur eyes and ur mind

I didnt know that there was a book of it! I love the movie tho and I first noticed the D slur the last time I watched it because english is my second language and in the german dubbing (which I've watched it in most times) , she just says lesbian in that scene even tho we'd have a slur for it. But I mean it plays in the 1960s so there wasnt much diversity and lisa calling that girl the d slur is more "realistic."
