Incredibly Specific 2000's Memories

some early kindle models came with free "lifetime" 3G support so before I had a smartphone I would load Meebo on the super slow ghosty eink screen so I could talk to my friends on long car trips :3

tbh although i've been terminally online like my entire life i was a wee little baby in the early 00s so my distinct memories come more from the very early 10s and i remember being like a proto-ipad baby but on my computer playing flash games like constantly from like 1pm-8pm and then my parents would be so mad because i needed to sleep cuz it was a sunday

my little green leapster and the big chunky camera my mom was always taking pictures of me with. pixie hollow online. accidentally friending a gun-loving roughneck on a facebook knockoff when I was 7 (he was surprisingly friendly! I was concerned about the picture he posted of his busted toenail though). people at school referencing popular grossout videos like 2girls1cup or goatse just to seem edgy or cool. feeling a little left out that everyone else my age had a nintendo ds. that specific california fuckboy singer voice type that was always on the radio back then. house/club/dubstep music being popular. so much glitter and hot pink and spy themed stuff for girls and grossout humor (especially slime kits) for boys at scholastic book fairs. early youtube memes. the original two star wars battlefront games, the sound of the generators at kamino. early roblox. some of this might be from the later 2000s, it all kinda blurs together for me

I remember spending HOURS trying to get on the leaderboard for games on cartoonnetwork.com

XM Radio was a huge deal at the time so I very distinctly remember playing Pokemon Crystal in the back seat of my dad's car when he came to pick me up for the weekend while he played a kids music radio station. We would get back to his apartment just in time for Cartoon Cartoon Friday.
