I am a scemo artist who enjoys a lot of music. However most isnt really emo. The only emo artists I really listen to are MCR and Bullet For My Valentine. (Does Evanescence count? I’ve heard it be considered a band for emos). Most of my music is trip hop,punk rock,oldskool hiphop and weird obscure stuff.

Nope! And it was never a requirement. Half my friends looked scene but liked mostly EDM back then. And i was a huge vocaloid nerd (still am.) Thats what truly makes you stand out imo in todays world where uniqueness is valued more than gold. I don't see many modern scenekids liking what you listen to. It means you're doing something right :o

I remember hearing that any obscure music or music that is no longer popular is good for scene and emos. Is that right?

honestly just listen to what makes u happy and if anyone tries to tell you that you can't just ignore them, there's no right or wrong way to do it
