Forum: Books and Stories

Ello!

As I finished college recently, I would like to get into reading as a hobby rather than something that I need for school. But IDK where to start, any recommendations?

Some examples of books that I've enjoyed recently:

Tales by E. A. Poe, The Ratcatcher (Dyk), The Master and Margarita (Bulgakov), The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Canterville Ghost (Wilde)

I'm currently trying to catch up with the classics like Dracula, but I think that I'd enjoy genres like mystery, little bit of horror or fantasy too. I love when there's also a bit of comedy mixed in. (You can check my profile to get an idea of what my taste is like.)

Thanks! - E

obligatory if u like stephan king's carrie (even just the movie!!) u should check out the novel Mary: An Awakening of Terror by Nat Cassidy. It echos the sentiment of a female outsider that just can't catch a break, but instead of a teenage girl going through puberty, it's a 50 year old woman going through menopause! I recommend it because it was a fun read, even if it did drag a bit through the middle. Warnings of sexism, gore, and abuse.

In more of a weird oh em gee whats going on type of vibe, I would recommend the classic by Jacqueline Harpman, I Who Have Never Known Men. Its about a young woman who, in the wake of some sort of post apocalyptic scenario, is kept locked in a cage with 39 other women. They remember what life was like before, but she doesn't, so it kind of ruminates on what makes people people, sex, socialization, enviorment etc. etc. u get the idea.

lololol sorry for the rambling!!

I recently read Niel Gaiman's Stardust, and enjoyed it. I personally was very into fantasy as a kid, i devoured books. I loved magic, faeries, mermaids; anything with isekai-like elements. No idea if you had a similar experience, but for me this book gave me the same feelings I had back then.
