it really depends on what kind of tablet you think you would need. wacom is probably the most reliable brand, but they are quite expensive if you're looking for a large tablet or a tablet with a screen. they sell small non-screened tablets for relatively cheap these days and usually include free software. these sorts of tablets are good for beginners.
if you want a tablet with a screen, i know some people will buy android tablets or ipads and a pen separately. you will be limited to drawing apps as your drawing programs but if that doesn't bother you, it is an option. huion sells graphics tabets with a screen for a lot cheaper than wacom, and personally, i bought one recently and have had little problems with it besides getting it set up. i think my huion still ran me around 400 or so (usd). but, it is a tablet with a screen and the thing is huge.
so yeah, in terms of brands you're looking at checking out wacom, huion and xppen (if you want a tablet that can connect to your computer and run computer programs) or an android tablet, amazon fire tablet or ipad if you don't mind using apps as your art programs (and if you reeeeally want a tablet with a screen and one that's much more portable).
