idk if this is what youre looking for bc im not sure if ur looking for specifically indie sound, or indie as in independent but!!!
some of my fav underrated 90s/2000s bands are:
1. Fair to Midland!!! MY FAV BAND EVER SO GOOD SO UNDERRATED
recommended song - orphan anthem '86, & rikki tikki tavi (2 bc theyre my fav)
2. the microphones (if ur a fan of indie u probably already know them. phil is awesome)
recommended song - The Moon
3. 3, yes they are actually called 3 :3
recommended song - Trust
4. MEW. OMG MEW IS SO GOOD.
recommended song - 156, Panda, introducing palace players (IM SORRY TO THROW 3 TRACKS AT U FOR THEM TOO BUT THEYRE ALL SO DIFFERENT)

By indie I mean independent (or small label), I can't stand the indie sound (although there are a few of them that I like)
I didn't know about 3, for what I listen to, I like their sound, to be honest I like all post-grunge bands from the early 2000s even if sometimes they sound all similar xD
Do you have other bands from the early 2000s (1997-2004)?
